Though the university is located in the state capital, the management and administration was the responsibility of the Centre and the State Government can not intervene, he said adding that the law and order, however, was a state subject and any kind of excesses by the police and the university officials will not be tolerated.

The panel recommended that criminal investigation should be immediately conducted and action should be taken against the police who have wilfully neglected their duty under section 4 of the SC/ST amendment act, 2016.

Hyderabad University has been on the boil ever since Appa Rao returned from his forced long leave following the death of the Dalit Research scholar Rohit Vemula.

MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday demanded withdrawal of cases against students and professors of Hyderabad Central University.

Police have detained around 25 students and two faculty members after a protest erupted in the varsity against the return of Vice Chancellor Appa Rao on Tuesday.

“However, the students tried to re-enter the building”. It said that the university officials had “more to hide than reveal” in the violence of March 22.

The team met the students, faculty members, the police, the Home Minister and local civil society organizations before giving its preliminary findings.

There were sharp exchanges between Congress, TRS, MIM and BJP MLAs.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader K. Laxman said action should be taken against those who were indulging in anti-national activities.
