Coach K heard scolding Oregon’s Dillon Brooks postgame

Dillon Brooks led the way last night with 22 points, and at the end of the game, with seconds on the clock, hit a deep three-pointer.

“If we can’t celebrate hitting the shot, then that’s part of the game”, Altman said.

Dillon Brooks was reportedly criticized in the handshake line by Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski for poor sportsmanship, when Brooks was just following the rules of basketball.

Before the release of the audio, Brooks told SI.com that Krzyzewski scolded him for his behavior, telling him he was “too good of a player to be showing off at the end”. This was a claim that Krzyzewski denied (he also said that the press could print whatever Brooks said, which is usually not how people approach accusations that they write off as false but whatever).

Driscoll told USA TODAY Sports that Brooks responded, “I’m sorry, coach”. Brooks said he spoke with Altman “about this whole situation” and added, “Me and Coach K, that conversation should have stayed with us”.

This is, of course, probably not that big of a deal.

Either Dana Altman sat on a grenade for his star player, or this actually happened: The Oregon coach was the one who ordered the code red. However, with the ball in his hands and a 6-second difference between the shot clock and game clock, Dillon made a decision to heave up the ball rather than let the shot clock run out.

“Coach K is a legend”. This is something that every college basketball fan dreams of, so make jokes responsibly, everyone.

“I told Dillon to shoot it, so if anyone’s got a problem with it, it should be directed at me”, Altman said. “I said, ‘You’re a terrific player”.

“I didn’t say that”, Krzyzewski said.

“He was acting on my orders”. I didn’t think he’d make it. It was a 30-footer.

“I didn’t say that”, Krzyzewski said in the postgame presser. “I’ve just got to keep playing with emotion and live or die by it”. Then he doubled down to say “I said, ‘You’re a terrific player.’ And you can take whatever he said and then go with it, all right?” “That brings something to everybody, ” he said. Coach K might have a bit of explaining to do on this one. He’s been in this game for so long that sometimes it looks like it’s easy and just so effortless.
