Braves Drop Opening Day in Extra Innings
Four hits over 10 innings is not going to win a lot of games for Atlanta.

But the Braves fumbled away a lead and the game, spoiling opening day in a 4-3, 10-inning loss to Washington before an announced sellout of 48,282 Monday afternoon at Turner Field.
“It’s kind of like the game telling me, welcome back”, Baker said.
Murphy’s one-out double to left off Eric O’Flaherty (0-1) drove in Ryan Zimmerman from second base in the 10th.
He said it was a team victory.
“I just love being here with my friends, and the atmosphere, and seeing (the Braves) play”, Shelley Kerr said.
SS Dansby Swanson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft by Arizona, will start his first season in the Braves organization at Class AA Mississippi despite just 83 professional at-bats. Scherzer went seven innings and allowed only three hits while striking out seven.
A throw to the plate from center fielder Ender Inciarte on a fly ball by Michael Taylor beat runner Jayson Werth, but catcher A.J. Pierzynski couldn’t hang onto the ball. “You know, might as well upgrade and bring the championships here”, Frank Towe said.
Gonzalez briefly emerged from the dugout but didn’t argue the call. “That’s why you send those runners. It’s not as easy as you think”.
Before the season gets underway, we wanted to share our thoughts about how all of the writers on our staff think the Nationals’ season will end in 2016. “They got there at the same time, and A.J. never really had the ball”.
Next came lefty Oliver Perez, another free-agent addition, who struck out his only batter, but not until after the Braves had taken a 3-2 lead.
National League MVP Bryce Harper also homered in his first plate appearance of the season.
The Atlanta Braves celebrated its final Opening Day at Turner Field in Atlanta on Monday ahead of the team’s move to SunTrust Park in Cobb County in 2017.
In Cincinnati, Zack Cozart had three hits and drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Joey Votto followed with a bases-loaded single. “It was the first time I’ve faced Freeman, and we’re going to have some battles”. He struck out seven and walked two, throwing 104 pitches.
Teheran allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. The 23-year-old is now 11-for-25 (.444) lifetime against Teheran with four home runs.
Zach Britton (1-0), the sixth Orioles pitcher, worked a ideal ninth.
If you are heading to Turner Field for the Braves vs. the Nationals, wear your shorts and ball caps.
Although the Nationals typically don’t make in-game injury announcements, it appeared as though Revere grabbed his side during a third-inning at-bat that ended with him grounding out. Baker said Revere had discomfort in his ribs on a swing. He’s made three consecutive opening-day starts for the Braves and gone 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA, including no decision Monday.

He also talked to reporters before the season opener about his early days in Atlanta when asked about the difficulty of facing divisional rivals like this year’s Braves and the 2016 Philadelphia Phillies, who are stocked with young, relatively unknown commodities as they go through rebuilding phases. Under Baker, the team has looked loose and it showed in their spring record, which was 19-4-4.
