Cleveland has reportedly re-signed Matthew Dellavedova to a one year deal.
In 67 games last season, Dellavedova averaged 4.8 points and 3.0 assists while shooting almost 41 percent from three-point range. With Kyrie Irving going down for the postseason, Dellavedova stepped into the starting role for the clincher against the Chicago Bulls and was the primary starter for the remainder of the postseason.
However, in the final three games of the finals against the victorious Golden State Warriors the Victorian was off-target offensively.
Had the Cavs not traded Haywood by August. 1, his entire $10.5 million contract would have been guaranteed. First, it allows the 24-year-old to re-enter free agency next season, when his value may be higher and he has another season under his belt.
Matthew Dellavedova was looking for a deal worth about $4 million annually as a restricted free agent this offseason but it didn’t look like anybody was willing to give him that.
Another motivation for the timing of the deal, a source told ESPN’s Marc Stein, is that Dellavedova wanted to get his contract situation resolved before competing for his home country of Australia in the FIBA Oceania Championship next month.
