A 17-year-old class 12 student was allegedly driving the Mercedes that slammed into Sidharth Sharma on Monday night in Civil Lines area. According to police, the father was arrested on charges of abetment after police found that the juvenile was involved in a serious accident in February, and that a “dangerous driving” notice had been issued to the father on March 3.
Manoj Aggarwal, the father of the accused has been booked and arrested under sections 109 and 304 of Indian Penal Code, letting a minor drive a auto.
He turned 18 on Friday and the Juvenile Justice Board will decide whether he will go to a juvenile home or he be tried as an adult.
“Keeping in mind certain facts, the death of Siddharth Sharma is a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and, hence, section 304 of IPC has been added in the FIR”, said Verma. The boy was apprehended on Tuesday and later released on bail as per legal provisions. He will be produced before a court today.
The almost 1 minute 20 seconds-long clip of the Monday’s incident, shared with the media by victim Siddhartha Sharma’s relatives, shows him trying to cross a clear road near a traffic intersection and later running towards the pavement as he sees the approaching vehicle. After the accident the vehicle hit the divider and both the right side tyres burst and all airbags got deployed.
Further, the investigating officer of the case was also changed after the victim Siddharth Sharma’s sister met Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma yesterday and urged him to take strict action against the perpetrators.
