Trump threat to run as independent counterproductive – party chief

In a Wednesday town hall, Trump told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that abortion should be banned and that women who undergo an abortion should face “some form of punishment”.

Trump, campaigning in Wisconsin, fought back against any contention that he is not capable of handling the demands of the presidency and noted that while he negotiated business deals across the globe for decades, he never had been asked about the numerous issues he is now is being confronted with. But he has faced unexpectedly stiff headwinds, in part because, unlike in most other states, the Republican Party machinery in Wisconsin is united in its determination to stop him. We all can change America for the better by getting down to the business of fixing this country before it can no longer be repaired.

He predicted he will do “very well” on Tuesday, and said, “We’re going to have a big surprise for you…”

Donald Trump said that, of course, his wealthy Muslim friends would be exceptions to the ban.

The party’s presidential front-runner told supporters on Saturday that he’s out to bring independents and Democrats behind his cause even though “right now I’m catering to the Republicans”.

But a series of serious missteps, on issues ranging from women’s rights to foreign policy to a growing rift within the Republican party, could signal the start of real trouble for the Trump campaign.

Earlier in the week, police in Florida, charged Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski with misdemeanor battery after examining surveillance video of an incident in which a reporter said she was grabbed and shoved.
