Leicester’s Ranieri says his aim was to avoid relegation

‘People lose their jobs. That was real pressure.

Barely managing to save their Premier League skins last season, the Foxes have defied pundits with their resilience in recent weeks, and are refusing to let go of a golden opportunity to win the league title.

“I am 64 years old, so I do not go out much”, Ranieri says. ‘We’ve done it in the Championship (in 2013-14). A lot of those players are still here from that period and we know what it’s like. Third place Arsenal are 11 points behind but have played a game less.

“If we start looking ahead after Sunderland (on Sunday) then we’re not going to put our full focus on Sunderland, which is what we need to do because that’s a tough, tough game”. I met Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan when I was at Watford, but they are different players now. Sometimes in the heat they might need a breather every now and again. “But they have to show us they are better'”.
