Former English cricketer Alan Wilkins tweeted, “6…6…6…6…World T20 Champions”.

“We had lots of issues, people wondered whether we would play this tournament”, said an emotional Sammy after his side pulled off a sensational chase with two balls to spare in the final.

“I think that support will carry on over into the players, the players will feel that and we’re looking forward to the summer now, and feeling that support”.

“Following on from the victorious ICC Under-19 World Cup team in Bangladesh in January, who will have representatives competing in each of our six franchises this season, today’s results again highlight the enormous mark that the West Indies continues to make on the global game”.

“Our Board did not want us to win this title”. Shane Warne has been talking continuously and all I want to say is “this is for Shane Warne”.

“That was a different game and every game has its own situation. I got to give credit to the entire team here”.

Sammy, who dedicated the win to the fans, however criticised the WICB and sided with CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) political leaders, who have called for the Dave Cameron-led executive of the WICB to be disbanded. Sammy had another swipe at the board as he thanked Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell for a good luck message received hours before the final.

The World Twenty20 has come and gone, and the tournament in India provided viewers with more than one breathless moment, from tight team finishes to heroic individual efforts.

“Basically get bat on ball… we’re running”, the burly Barbadian grinned. Shane Warne has been talking and this (man of the match trophy) is for Shane Warne.

Warne had criticized Samuels for his dismissal in the semi-final against India and slammed it as “poor and disappointing”. “I wish he has a long and successful career ahead of him”.

It was immediately clear that the 24-year-old would not bear his burden lightly, as he stared disbelieving and vacant into the Kolkata night, but Bayliss is confident there will be no lasting damage.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate Darren and his team”. We were probably 40 short, 180-190 wicket. In the penultimate over he had seen Chris Jordan bowl some magnificent Yorkers to restrict Marlon Samuels and Braithwaite to just seven. We didn’t play him very well. No printing. He left Dubai, went to Kolkata, that’s where we started. We showed an enormous amount of character throughout the tournament, but we didn’t do probably enough.

Sammy too was thrilled with the news, thanking St Lucians for their support, “I am truly honoured, I am humbled and blessed”.
