John Goodman plays Edward Davis, while Kevin Bacon will portray FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard DesLauriers and J.K. Simmons has been cast as Watertown Police Department Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, who was engaged in a firefight (prolonged exchange of bullets) with the brothers.
Three people were killed in that horrific attack, with more than 250 others injured, many severely.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was shot to death three days after the bombing.
He plays Boston Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders, a composite character based on several real-life officers present on the day.
The movie is set to open in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, with a wider opening soon after that.
This will be Melikidze’s second feature-length film after “A Beautiful Something”, coming in May. “Because I’m thinking to myself, that’s going to stir things up all over again”, said Maria Van Ryn, a Boston resident speaking to NPR about the upcoming film.
Crews will film inside Collier’s apartment on Curtis Street in Somerville’s Teele Square on April 15, according to a permit filed with the city.
Peter Berg is directing from a script by Matt Charman (“Bridge of Spies”).
