It’s that time of the year when vehicle manufacturers announce their spoils of war, and Mercedes-Benz has clocked in its highest ever sales.

Mr. Zetsche, whose contract has been extended for three years to the end of 2019, told a shareholders meeting in Berlin that the company expected “significant growth” in unit sales this year, driven in part by the Mercedes-Benz Cars’ new E-class models that are launching in global markets.

The company sold 3,622 units during the quarter under review from an off-take of 3,566 units. Fiscally, the German automaker has registered a growth of around 11 per cent doing better than the 11,213 units that it sold in the 2014-15 period.

Pushing the way forward were their globally acclaimed line-up of cars. Demand for their newly launched products – S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach and GLE continues to grow across all dealerships. The smart brand also reached a new high for unit sales last month. However, the vehicle maker has not revealed their sales figures for the month. Mercedes-Benz claims that the boost in sales in the rest of the country helped maintain the needed momentum.

The Q1 sales momentum achieved is significant against the backdrop of the ban on 2,000 cc above diesel engines in the key Delhi and NCR market, successive price hikes and a lack of incentives for the automotive sector in the Union Budget, it added. We have been able to compensate the negative sales impact in the Delhi and NCR market, with a strong double digit growth achieved in most other markets across the country.
