Kat Graham leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’ after season 8
The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder talked about how he wants Season 8 of the series to go “back to the roots” and focus on the series’ core characters.

The 26-year-old actress told Us Weekly at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday (April 5) that she will be leaving the show.
“I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me”, Kat said. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good. “The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go because we’re a family”, she said.
While some fans are optimistic that Kat’s exit from the show will inspire Nina Dobrev to return and help keep the vampire drama together – it is highly unlikely.
The CW and Warner Bros. had no comment about Graham’s announcement. Fans know that after the villain Kai (Chris Wood) put a “Sleeping Beauty” spell on the two BFFs, their lives were permanently connected.
As for what’s ahead for Bonnie in the near term, Graham spilled, “There’s some really intense stuff with my character this season”.
First Elena, now Bonnie, and rumors of Damon’s departure looming as well? It’s pretty major for the character – huge turns, a lot of stunts and cool s-t!’ We will have the opportunity to see if fatherhood has changed his character. Although Nora and her long time partner Mary Louise (played by Teressa Liane) ultimately were killed off, the possibilities that this relationship opened up have certainly not gone away.
Just a few weeks ago, the network confirmed that “The Vampire Diaries” will be renewed for season 8.
Dobrev, who played the lead female, Elena, famously left the series at the end of Season 6 in 2015.
