Senate GOP strategy for dealing with Trump: Keep it local
“Our candidate is someone who is running”, Priebus said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”.

Wisconsin will vote in a keenly awaited primary on Tuesday.
The most robust group working to stop Donald Trump from winning the Republican presidential nomination, Our Principles PAC, is shifting its focus from stopping Trump at the polls to limiting his success in acquiring delegates, a potential major weakness for the Republican front-runner.
That is almost 600 delegates in areas that look to be favorable to Mr. Trump. Kasich trails with 145. Political surveys in the northern state show Trump’s nearest challenger, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, ahead of him in the state contest for 42 national convention delegates.
Saturday’s results in Colorado are part of the Cruz campaign’s aggressive behind-the-scenes delegate strategy, focusing on the finer details of state-by-state delegate selection rules.
State Rep. Scott Louser, leader of North Dakota’s state House Republican Caucus and a candidate for national delegate, said he was celebrating his wife’s birthday before the convention Friday evening at a restaurant in Fargo and spotted Fiorina there. In protecting a candidate who did not instinctively condemn the KKK and David Duke, Priebus makes a mockery of efforts to expand the party’s appeal.
One man stood up requesting that each of the 70 nominees, which include 25 nominees slated by a committee, tell the people who they support – if they are willing. “As I met them over the weekend, North Dakota Republicans recognized that I am the only candidate who can move this country forward by protecting freedom and liberty. There’s no leverage over us”, Priebus said. But victory in the general election for president of the United States in November is going to require a lot more than 40% of the votes.
Convention-goers were scheduled to select 25 of their 28 national delegates on Sunday.
“Instead of stirring up strife and grossly mischaracterizing the conversation that took place between Mr. Morris and Chairman Haynes, let’s set the record straight: There was never an agreement, especially after the Trump campaign spoke dismissively about the party process and one of our female members”, said Brent Leatherwood, executive director of the state Republican Party.
Rubio suspended his campaign after losing his home state of Florida to Trump last month, but he will still have his Oklahoma delegates sent to the convention.
After delegates are picked, Gamache said those folks can expect to be contacted by the different campaigns, if they haven’t already. As a result, all eyes are on the results of the district and state conventions. “I said the proof will be in the pudding we’ll see how it all comes out”. Curly Haugland, North Dakota’s national committeeman, said allowing the delegates to keep their preferences private was necessary for civility. But it would also make the consequences of failing to defeat him all the more ruinous if the specter of choosing a seemingly unelectable nominee does not deter Mr. Trump’s supporters”. They do not want to talk about the presidential race or the Supreme Court as they try to box out an increasingly unfavorable national political atmosphere.

Roughly half of the 25 national delegates elected by North Dakota Republicans reside in the Bismarck-Mandan area, including Gov. Jack Dalrymple and his wife, Betsy.
