Sada’s nomination, which must be approved by the Senate and accepted by the United States, comes at a time when Mexicans have been at the center of attacks by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has advocated a tough position against illegal immigration.

Mexican Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu told a local radio station that “today in the context of the electoral campaign we have seen sentiments that in many cases are anti-Mexican among a certain part of the USA population”.
“Carlos Manual Sada Solana has extensive experience in consular work and the protection of the rights of Mexicans in North America as well as in the defense of the interests of Mexico overseas”, said a statement Tuesday from the Mexican Foreign Relations Secretariat.
“The Mexican government has firmly rejected views that have surfaced in the last few months against our community in the United States, against our country, against bilateral relations”, she said when asked about the tone of the campaign.
Ruiz Massieu was one three Mexican cabinet members who came to San Diego to attend the formal inauguration of the Cross Border Xpress, a new port of entry that allows ticketed airline passengers direct access from the United States to Tijuana’s A.L.
