Outbreaks of the Zika virus are likely to occur in the United States; so to prepare, health officials are developing plans to combat Zika that focus on protecting pregnant women from the virus.

“Really what we’re dealing with is a patchwork of mosquito control operations in the country of varying quality”, said Lyle Petersen, MD, director of the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases at the CDC and the man who is leading the agency’s Zika response.

“The mosquitoes that carry Zika virus are already active in USA territories, hundreds of travelers with Zika have already returned to the continental USA, and we could well see clusters of Zika virus in the continental U.S.in the coming months”.
Each of the 79 cases of Zika infection in Florida were contracted by people traveling outside the United States. This includes the preparation of derivative works of, or the incorporation of such content intoother works.

While researchers are still studying the link between Zika and microcephaly, health experts fear that microcephaly is just one of the potential problems for the unborn.
The survey included 105 households in which a woman was pregnant or was considering becoming pregnant in the next year. That may be a challenge because officials say counties might only have a handful of people working on mosquito control.
In its latest report, Puerto Rico’s health department said there were 350 confirmed cases of Zika infection, including 40 pregnant women.

The model was based on a strain of Zika virus isolated from a patient infected during the French Polynesia epidemic in 2013-2014.
