In January, General Motors announced its own electric people’s auto, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, which is expected to have about the same range and price as the Tesla Model 3.

The five-seat Model 3, similarly sized to an Audi A4, will have a range of at least 215 miles on a full charge, Tesla says, and will include its “autopilot” safety features. Within 24 hours, 115,000 people had already placed deposits for $1,000 before the auto was even unveiled. The Model 3 will also come with “trunk space” in both the rear and the front of the vehicle, offering more cargo space than your average hatchback.
“You will not be able to buy a better auto for $35,000, even with no options”, Musk said, adding that it will be one of the safest cars in the world. Design wise, the Model 3 looks like a smaller, more modern brother of the Model S but uses the no-grille approach of the Model X for the front fascia.
The newest model in Tesla’s line-up will be capable of hitting 60mph in less than six seconds from a standstill, with faster versions planned.
The company released a live teaser of the model explaining the speed, power, torque that makes it a special auto.
The Model 3 is meant to be Tesla’s first genuinely low-priced vehicle, with a $35,000 price tag (around £30,000 in the UK).
Musk said the vehicle will be on sale by 2017-end and has a pre-order level of around 117,000 units. The Model 3 has a panoramic glass roof and an elongated hood. It needs to be seen whether the company will manage to deliver the cars on time as Tesla is famous for late deliveries.
