Draymond Green then threw down a thunderous dunk off a pick-and-roll with Curry for the exclamation point, as he finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
The post Warriors survive in Utah, get to 68-7, and now a record 73 wins seems inevitable, and maybe so does 74… or 75? appeared first on Talking Points.
The Bee Sports staff tracks the Warriors’ progress toward breaking the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record of 72 wins, using a measuring stick from the past to gauge the present. The Jazz were only 3-for-9 from the field in overtime, while the Warriors made all five of their field goals (no threes!) while Green himself did some excellent work in the paint, just like Curry with two field goals. They now hold a 37-37 record and have won eight of the last ten games they played.
Argentinian veteran Manu Ginobili scored 20 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, to help the Spurs finish off a 100-92 triumph over the injury-depleted New Orleans Pelicans. Otherwise, it was a quiet night for Curry, who only scored 12 points and didn’t get his first points until he hit a 3-pointer with 3:12 to go before intermission. Thompson had 16 points and Harrison Barnes added 14….
LOS ANGELES – Julius Randle scored the game-winning basket with 1.9 seconds remaining in overtime, lifting Los Angeles past Miami.
The Knicks had one last chance, but guard Langston Galloway’s 3-pointer at the buzzer glanced off the rim. D’Angelo Russell scored five of his 16 points in overtime after receiving light boos from Lakers fans at several points early in the night. The rookie guard apologized profusely before the game for recording an unflattering video of teammate Nick Young.
But just when it appeared the Warriors would be saddled with a rare halftime deficit at home, they countered with a flurry of their own, scoring the final 12 points of the second period. Boston is sixth in the Eastern Conference but trails third-place Atlanta by just a game and a half. New York’s Carmelo Anthony, who made 11 of 22 shots, led all scorers with 31 points.
In Sacramento, DeMarcus Cousins had 29 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four blocks, and the Kings hurt Washington’s playoff hopes. Thomas and Bradley combined for 42 points. Players this season are now a combined 0-for-11 on potential go-ahead shots in the final 10 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime against the Warriors. Rodney Hood kept his hot streak with 20 points plus six rebounds.
