Rockies’ Story sets Major League Baseball record with 2 homers

PHOENIX (AP) – A storybook start to Trevor Story’s major league career coincided with Zack Greinke’s worst game in four seasons.

The Colorado Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-5 behind two big home runs from Trevor Story.

“They’re unbelievable to watch”, Miller said.

“I think sometimes you guys want to read too much into it. He didn’t pitch that well, and they swung the bats really well”. “It is a really, really special moment”.

For the second straight game the Arizona Diamondbacks saw their off season pitching acquisition get rocked.

He signed his record-breaking contract during the off-season with Arizona.

Story smashed his second home run in the fourth, this one measured at a whopping 428ft, and it ended Greinke’s game as he was pulled after giving up seven runs. After his first at-bat Wednesday, he was 4-for-11 – with four homers and seven RBIs.

It also was the fourth home run in the first three games of Story’s big-league career, something no player has done in modern baseball history (since 1900). Four have done it in the American League.

6 – Baserunners allowed by three Philadelphia Phillies relievers as the Cincinnati Reds rallied for five runs to win their traditional home opener 6-2. Utility man Chris Owings started in center field for injured star A.J. Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The first was a fastball, “maybe a little up”, Greinke allowed. I just tried to go up there and get a good pitch to hit. Fire fighters said the 8-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl had just made a purchase from an ice cream truck and were crossing the road when they were hit. “Same thing, not ideal but pretty darned good”.

Personally, I like that the Diamondbacks were willing to go “all in” for the 2016 season. The first one was a three-run, opposite-field drive to right in the third inning. Gonzalez followed with a line shot into the swimming pool area in right-center. He was 19-3 with a major-league-leading 1.66 ERA with the Los Angeles Dodgers and did not win the NL Cy Young despite leading the league in ERA, WHIP and WAR. In the seventh inning of the Blue Jays’ 5-3 victory over the AL East rival Rays, Steve Pearce made contact for what looked to be a sure extra-base hit, until Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar ran it down and made a sprawling catch to rob him.

Just as spring training started, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that Reyes would be placed on administrative leave until his court case was resolved. He was expected to stand trial April 4, but it was reported that the pending charges against him were expected to be dropped because his wife, who was the alleged victim, was failing to cooperate with prosecutors. But MLB could still hand out a suspension under terms of the new domestic violence policy.
