There is a small private airstrip near the scene of the crash, but it is unknown whether the plane was attempting to land there.
Kenosha County deputies and the Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol found the plane around midday Sunday, according to a release. It also says the plane was an experimental aircraft.
A witness said he saw the plane twirling on its way down.
Investigators do not yet know precisely when the plane crashed, but believe it went down during the 24-hour period before the wreckage was found at about noon on Sunday, Ruth said.
“He said it was kind of twirling around, going down to the ground”, Olson said.
Amery, in Polk County, is about 60 miles northeast of St. Paul.
The remains have been taken to a medical examiner’s office in Anoka, Minnesota, for autopsies and identifications.
