Central Wisconsin goes Sanders, Trump
Decisive wins in Wisconsin boosted USA presidential hopefuls Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Bernie Sanders as they chase the front-runners, building momentum as they gear up for the crucial NY primary in two weeks.

“It’s not impossible for Trump to still get there, but the likelihood is that Trump will be a few dozen delegates short of a majority”, he added, meaning the likelihood of a contested convention has increased substantially. Many Wisconsin voters may have simply voted for Cruz thinking it was the best way to get to an open convention where the wildly popular Paul Ryan could step in and become the party’s nominee.
Despite the concern among some Wisconsin Republicans about Trump becoming president, almost 6 in 10 Republican voters there said the party should nominate the candidate with the most support in the primaries, which so far would be Trump. We have a choice. “The more Trump is around, the more he makes these outrageous accusations, the more people may be turned off from his campaign”.
The lukewarm endorsements have allowed the Trump campaign to pounce.
With his win, Cruz picks up 36 delegates: 18 from his statewide victory and another 18 with his win in six of the state’s eight congressional districts. Both were areas where he was expected to do well heading into Tuesday. Laning said a year ago she would vote for whichever candidate won Wisconsin’s primary, but that is no longer her position.
Trump national spokeswoman Katrina Pierson defended the statement on an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, saying the so-called establishment has no intention of supporting Cruz at the convention – suggesting the goal is only to use him to hold back Trump and force a floor fight, and then back somebody else.
It all began when Hillary Clinton implied Sanders was not ready to be president in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe the day after the Wisconsin primary. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet – he is a Torjan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump.
Mr Rubio’s five delegates from Alaska were divided between Mr Trump and Mr Cruz by the state party, but Mr Rubio wrote to the party and asked for them back.
Exit polls in Wisconsin highlighted the deep worries about Trump surging through some corners of the Republican Party. Recent combative interviews with Trump, including one with “Never Trump” leader Charlie Sykes, caused the GOP frontrunner to respond at recent campaign rallies. NY could be the state that “matters most” in the primary, he said.
Clinton declined to echo the calls from some of her campaign surrogates and supporters for Sanders to drop out of the race so she can focus on the general.
The Associated Press has not projected the final delegate tally yet, but Sanders will walk away with at least 47 pledged delegates after his 13-point victory.
Hillary Clinton still leads by over 200 delegates.

A month ago, he was a nonconventional pol with emotional appeal to struggling working-class white voters in the Rust Belt, someone who could put traditionally Democratic states into play. That’s when Democrats turned to Adlai Stevenson, who won on the third ballot.
