Angels acquire Shane Victorino from Red Sox for stretch run
As the trade deadline approaches, the Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade veteran outfielder Shane Victorino and cash considerations to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder Josh Rutlegde.

Victorino spent the brunt of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he earned two all-star selections and won two World Series titles.
The Red Sox are now 44-55 and in last place in the American League East, while the Angels are 55-43 and lead the AL West by a game over Houston. Asked how he now views the three-year, $39 million contract Victorino signed before the 2013 season, all things considered, Cherington offered a simple and honest response.
Victorino played mostly right field for Boston, but is likely to play in left field against left-handed pitchers for the Angels.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington admitted part of the deal, which came together over the weekend and was completed Monday afternoon after talking to Victorino during batting practice, was meant to make room for Castillo in right field.
245 with one homer and four RBIs in just 33 games for the Red Sox this season. 212 with five homers.
If Victorino returns anywhere near to his 2013 form, when he had a career-best 6.1 WAR, per ESPN.com, and became the second player to hit two postseason grand slams, this trade will be fully justified for L.A. His fielding is also a big positive when healthy, evident in his four Gold Glove Awards. Castillo was scheduled to start Monday night at Fenway Park against the Chicago White Sox.
Rutledge was acquired from the Rockies over the winter, but he has spent the entire 2015 season in Triple-A.
The Red Sox recalled outfielder Rusney Castillo from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill Victorino’s roster spot.
Martinez was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday, along with Randy Johnson, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio. The seven retired Red Sox numbers are all of everyday players. “I think it’s a great honor”.

“We know that he’s had injuries in the past, but for right now the word is he’s fine”, Stoneman said.
