WICB should support players, address their concerns: Tendulkar

The WICB and president Cameron congratulated both the men’s and women’s team – Stafanie Taylor’s side had earlier beaten Australia to clinch their maiden title – afterwards and Muirhead said the board should get some credit.

There was genuine pain in his voice when Sammy said he does not know when is the next time that he will wear a West Indies shirt as there are no Twenty20’s scheduled for the team this year.

Sammy said he was disappointed to not get any response from the West Indies Cricket Board. “During the India vs Pakistan match on February 15, over 8.2 million people logged on to Facebook and the final match between England and West Indies saw 6.1 million people engage on the platform”.

The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) also extended its congratulations to the successful West Indies ladies.

The journalist and broadcaster accepted he was wrong to use the phrase, issuing an unreserved apology to Sammy and his Windies team after their triumphant finish.

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC-The vice president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Emmanuel Nanthan, yesterday launched a major broadside against Darren Sammy, 48 hours after he led West Indies into the history books by becoming the first team to capture the T20 World Cup twice.

Sammy, who dedicated the win to the fans, however criticised the WICB and sided with CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) political leaders, who have called for the Dave Cameron-led executive of the WICB to be disbanded.

I personally also want to thank the coaching staff, coach Phil, he’s been through a lot, and to come here and the way he’s coached the team, he’s just brilliant.

“The date was coming, the players had not consented to go to play so the company delivered the uniforms without the numbers of them because we were not sure which players we going to play”, he said.

One of the major stumbling blocks for the players is WICB’s insistence that they play in the regional tournaments consistently in order to be eligible for the global engagements in all three formats. To see Carlos [Brathwaite] play like that in his debut World Cup, it’s just tremendous.

There is widespread euphoria across the Caribbean as a result of the sensational exploits of the West Indies men’s and women’s team in winning their respective T20 World Cup titles.

Many senior players such as Chris Gayle no longer play Test matches, instead turning out in T20 leagues where they can earn more money in six weeks than they are paid by their board in a year. He sent a very inspiring message for the team this morning and I’m yet to hear from our own cricket board. The WICB has said that the players who travel around the world playing in the T20 franchise-based tournaments, can not expect to be picked exclusively on their experience and stature. That is very disappointing.
