Castellanos’ HR, 3 RBIs leads Tigers past Red Sox 5

They’ll counter Detroit’s Greene with Eduardo Rodriguez.

David Ortiz, who earlier celebrated the Hall of Fame induction of Dominican countryman Pedro Martinez, continued his country’s proud day Sunday night.

The Red Sox have a payroll of $180 million this season – third-highest in the majors – and the Tigers are fifth at $173 million.

The Red Sox did more than hit well on the night, they pitched well too. “That’s usually a recipe for a loss”. Though the Tigers went into Friday’s game one game under.

On Sunday, the seven RBIs allowed him to pass Hall of Famers Rogers Hornsby, Al Kaline and Harmon Killebrew to take sole possession of 38th place on the all-time list. Ortiz (1,587) is now four shy of tying Andre Dawson for 37th. Bogaerts finished with three hits for the BoSox.

“Nothing changed”, Greene said.

But, even with everything that has taken place this season, Sunday was all about Ortiz and he showed why he still is one of the best hitters in the game, despite what happened the first two months of the year.

Greene gave up singles to Brock Holt and Xander Bogaerts in the fifth before David Ortiz hit a three-run home run to right to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. H.Ramirez doubled to center.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, is coming in off of a forgettable outing where he yielded seven runs on six hits and lasted just 1.2 frames. He’s allowed at least five earned runs in eight of his 16 starts for the Tigers. “Everybody knows what you’re talking about – the amount of movies it’s been in”, Castellanos said. For much of his career, Napoli has been a three-true-outcomes guy that has kept his batting average respectable with hard contact, but this year, he’s had trouble barreling up the ball, and the result has been an extreme drop in BABIP. He hasn’t made it out of the fifth inning in two starts since being recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

Detroit Tigers’ Nick Castellanos hits a two-run ground rule double during the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Boston Red Sox in Boston, Saturday, July 25, 2015.

The Tigers have hit 1.6 homers per game since superstar Miguel Cabrera went down with a strained calf July 4 after hitting 0.9 beforehand. On November 25th, the team signed the seemingly mutually exclusive duo of Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. Napoli drew a walk on a long AB to bring up Swihart.

Up Next: The Sox will welcome the Chicago White Sox to Fenway for a four-game set starting Monday. Green has struggled the past six times out with 32 runs scored on 34 hits and nine BB over 21 innings. He allowed just one run on five hits and struck out six in the Red Sox’s 2-1 11-inning win, their first in eight games. If Boston wants to win, they can’t afford to waste these opportunities given how poor their pitching has been. “Coming out of that, he still feels some of the same symptoms – not to the severity obviously that he went on the DL with, but there’s still a little bit of soreness in the hamstring”. “We haven’t had Miggy for the majority of that”. They then got off to the coldest start out of any team in the second half as they were shut out in their first two games and lost all seven of the games on their west coast road trip.
