Dana White Insists Conor McGregor Will Defend UFC Featherweight Belt

After weeks of speculation, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Wednesday that an expected rematch between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz is set to headline the event.

Diaz and McGregor fought at 170 pounds at UFC 196 because Diaz had been fighting at welterweight and only had less than two week’s notice for the fight and didn’t have time to drop the weight.

Conor McGregor lost to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, his first loss in his last 15 fights. What was not necessarily expected was the rematch taking place at welterweight because McGregor is reportedly “obsessed” with getting his redemption in the very weight class in which he gassed out and was submitted by a guy who had 10 days to prepare for the fight. “I’ve fought everyone in the UFC, and they better give me some (expletive) compliments if I win this fight”.

Jose Aldo doesn’t see any logic in Diaz vs. McGregor II and Frankie Edgar is nonplussed by the whole thing.

“I have utmost respect for McGregor and that is why I would want to have this fight with him”.

“I think Conor will control more his impulse to get the knockout so he doesn’t gas again, but even if he wins, which I don’t think will happen, he’s way smaller than the athletes in this division, and I’m not even talking about the champion”, Pederneiras said via MMA Fighting. “Or, if you really want the Diaz fight that bad, do it at ’55,”‘ said White. This is a gift for him to get it right away.

Well, recently RDA tweeted out the following verbal shot, McGregor’s way.

When asked to reveal exactly how much he stands to profit on July 9, Diaz coolly responded, “I’m making a lot of money, but not enough”. If he’s not cut out for a longterm career at 145, then a few big super fights with the title around his waist, might be his way of stepping out. “Lose a fight and you’ll never see that guy again”.

The bout serves as another opportunity for Diaz to prove to fans his upset win wasn’t just a fluke.

The younger Diaz also went on to describe McGregor as a “spoiled little kid”, adding that the reigning UFC featherweight champion should be thanking him, instead.

“I think I can beat every fighter from my weight up to heavyweight“, Diaz said.

“He didn’t respond to anything”, he said of McGregor.
