Padres shut out 2nd straight night by rival Dodgers, 3-0

The new Dodgers starting pitcher, imported from Japan, enjoyed his first big-league game by pitching six scoreless innings with four strikeouts and helping his own cause with a 369-foot solo home run in the fourth inning of a 7-0 win over the Padres.

For the offense however heading to Coors Field might be just what they need to jumpstart an offense that helped the Dodgers set a record for consecutive scoreless innings to start the season and the Padres who now have 27 innings to start the year without a run.

The Los Angeles Dodgers hobbled into their opening series of the season with 10 players on the disabled list, then danced out of San Diego late Wednesday night with a bit of baseball history.

Tied at 20th for total home runs, San Diego and Los Angeles have each hit zero homers this season.

The Pirates are playing in a more hard division, but they showed how they should stand in it at least through the first three games against the St. Louis Cardinals, winning all three games by a combined eight runs, holding the Cards twice to just one. The Padres have failed to score in their first two games.

With runners on first and third and one out in the sixth inning, the Dodgers’ corner infielders drew in a few steps.
