China Announces Trade Restrictions Against North Korea

China is imposing economic restrictions on North Korea in compliance with a new set of stronger United Nations sanctions over Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

North Korea can fire a nuclear warhead at South Korea, Japan, China and Russian Federation on a medium-range missile, Seoul said yesterday.

The CRS report, meanwhile, said that US officials are also concerned about the “possibility that a small-scale North Korean provocation against South Korea is more likely to escalate than it was previously, due in part to South Korea’s stated intention to respond more forcefully to an attack”.

Chinese Commerce Ministry has chose to ban trade with North Korea including import of gold and rare earth metals and export of jet fuel, oil products used to make rocket fuel.

South Korean Yonhap news agency includes comment on the issue from the US Deputy Secretary of State.

North Korea’s official website DPRK released a new propaganda video Monday depicting multiple missile strikes on the South Korean capital of Seoul. “Whether they will fire it like that is a political decision”, said the official.

Last month, the Security Council responded by approving sanctions including inspections of cargo bound to and from North Korea.

Independent experts have frequently questioned China’s resolve to enforce sanctions against North Korea, whose economy is heavily dependent on its neighbour. “We are looking into… and closely monitoring the situation”, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-gyun said during a regular press conference Tuesday.

South Korea has previously said North Korea had made progress in its efforts to miniaturise a nuclear warhead but the capability was incomplete.

In January, North Korea announced what it said was a successful test of a hydrogen weapon, and more recently claimed that it had miniaturized warheads.

The Rodong-1 missile, an indigenously produced North Korean ballistic missile developed from Scud technology, has an estimated maximum range of between 1,000 and 1,500 kilometers.

In worldwide media interviews in Geneva and London, North Korea says United States of America is responsible for “nuclear issue” North Korea described “establishing negotiations” as a “fundamental solution” to issues surrounding its nuclear and missile programs.
