Sanders wins Wyoming, prepares to take on Clinton in NY
Bernie Sanders won the popular vote in Wyoming, but Hillary Clinton performed better than expected and came out of the caucus tied with Sen.

Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., right, and Council Member Laurie Cumbo as she sits at the counter of Junior’s restaurant in the Brooklyn borough of New York, Saturday, April 9, 2016. In those contests, demographics and a strong grass-roots organization have helped Sanders nab delegates, though he still remains well behind Clinton in the overall pledged delegate race. “Donald Trump started this campaign calling immigrants rapists and criminals and he has gone on from there”.
Despite the Democratic Senator’s 10-point lead over Clinton (55.7 percent to 44.3 percent), both candidates scored seven delegates each due to party rules in the overwhelmingly Republican state.
Sanders addressed his state win at a rally in Long Island City, New York Saturday.
Clinton, meanwhile, already has more than half the 2,383 delegates and enjoys a lead of more than 200 over the self-proclaimed democratic socialist.
For Ohio Gov. John Kasich, it’s about winning enough delegates to keep all candidates from locking up the majority.
In a statement Clinton campaign manager Robbie Mook said, “We congratulate Senator Sanders on a spirited campaign in Wyoming”.
Sanders said his campaign has cut significantly into Clinton’s delegate lead, and added that he believes this part of the calendar favors him because the states moving forward have a more progressive outlook.
Though Sanders was favored to win the Wyoming Democratic race, Clinton had endorsements from more elected officials in the state as well as the state’s four superdelegates, according to the New York Times. The caucuses were the last before the crucial NY primary where almost 250 delegates are up for grabs.
Clinton bypassed the state in favor of campaigning elsewhere, sending her husband and former President Bill Clinton to Wyoming to campaign on her behalf. Earlier Saturday, Bernie Sanders took his campaign to Washington Heights for a rally – his focus was on the Republicans.
On Saturday, a further 13 delegates are at stake at the Colorado Republican Convention.
Given the inherent advantage Sanders had going into Wyoming, Clinton aides were left crowing he was unable to run up a bigger victory, arguing Sanders failed to meet expectations there. We know Bernie will go hard on Hillary about her Wall Street fundraising connects, but it should be interesting to see how that plays with her home crowd.

That means Mrs Clinton has 1,287 delegates based on primaries and caucuses to Mr Sanders’ 1,037.
