Vardy hails ‘big step’ towards Premier League title

Claudio Ranieri has been earning the plaudits for masterminding Leicester City’s stunning season in the Premier League and it hasn’t gone unnoticed in his homeland too.

“It is important for Jamie Vardy to score because he made some good assists in the last game but he is our goalscorer and he needed to score again and I am very happy with him”.

CLAUDIO RANIERI, the Leicester City manager, admits emotional scenes at the end of his side’s fifth straight win were inspired by the supporters who are sharing his most unlikely dream of a triumph in the Barclays Premier League.

The Foxes made a lively start to the game and tested Vito Mannone after less than three minutes when Ngolo Kante’s dipping volley drew a comfortable stop from the Sunderland keeper.

JAMIE VARDY, whose two goals gave Leicester victory over Sunderland.

“We wanted to win, of course, while Sunderland were a little bit more anxious”.

Leicester can take a step closer to the title when they host Champions League-chasing West Ham United on Sunday.

“You make this job for the emotion you feel inside but it is hard for me to tell you what kind”, Ranieri said.

While his side may never have been in a winning position, they were very competitive for the first hour and had Jack Rodwell converted his opportunity to equalise with just eight minutes left on the clock, a point would have been regarded as a fair outcome.

“I am very happy for the three points”, Ranieri said.

The striker’s first league goals since Feb 14 ensured Leicester had a new club record for goals in a Premier League season (57).

The Foxes opened up a 10-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur, but Spurs responded with an emphatic 3-0 win over Manchester United to remain as we were entering the weekend.

That was the moment midway through the second half when experienced defender Younes Kaboul failed to deal with Danny Drinkwater’s long ball.

The defeat for Sunderland leaves them entrenched in the relegation zone with next Saturday’s trip to Norwich now pivotal to their hopes of staying afloat. The reason we won the game was from his movement – and obviously a superb pass by Drinky [Danny Drinkwater] for the first goal – but Jamie’s movement is vital in that.

“There is nothing wrong with looking at the fixtures, but the team that we have got, they are not a bunch that are going to let it go to their heads”.
