According to police, two ATM cash delivery employees stopped at a customer’s site on Industrial Avenue late Monday morning. “While moving items around inside their vehicle the employee put the money satchel on the lawn and returned to the back of the vehicle where he was normally positioned”.

They drove off, forgetting the bag.

“The driver of the vehicle assuming that all was in order then left for the next stop”, the chief said.

Sometime after 11:15 a.m. Monday, surveillance video shows a passenger in a white van grabbing the bag.

The ATM employees are reportedly cooperating with the investigation.

The passenger who took the tires is the same person people believe took the money; the person appears to be a dark-skinned man, wearing a T-shirt and long white athletic shorts with a dark stripe down the thigh, police said.

The chief said it was not the first time the white van, believed to be a GMC Savana, has been seen in the area. Anyone with additional information can contact Mahwah Detectives Michael Grassi or Eric Larsen at 201-529-1000, extension 216 or 217.

Police are looking for a man in a van who they said drove off with a bag filled with tens of thousands of dollars that was accidentally left behind by an employee of an ATM company in Mahwah NJ
