Tesla says Model 3 reservations hit 325000

The Model 3 already has logged more than 325,000 reservations, at $1,000 apiece, since Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the vehicle at a lavish event last week.

Tesla Motors claims that this is “the single-biggest one-week launch of any product ever”, and there’s no doubt about that. The company has written on its official blog website this Thursday that they “haven’t advertised or paid for any endorsements” and that they are quite pleased about the interest that the customers have shown so far.

On Thursday morning, Tesla has updated investors with how many Model 3 reservations it garnered during the first week: Over 325,000. The company also joked that it would have written more on the subject, but needed to get back to increasing its Model 3 production plans. But as we can see, more and more people are willing to pre-order the Model 3 and take advantage of its low price, which starts at $35,000 before federal incentives kick in.

Its flagship Model S sedan starts at $70,000 but can cost upwards of $100,000 when fully loaded.

One week ago, Tesla began accepting deposit-backed reservations for its Model 3.

“I think the mistake we made with the Model X, which I really think we’ve taken to heart at Tesla, is that we put too many new features and technologies, too many great things all at once, into a product”.

The Model X SUV, for example, finally hit the streets in late 2015, about a year and a half later than initially promised.

“We are all taking a huge step towards a better future by accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation”.

Introduced in 2012, the Model S quickly became Hollywood’s dominant status auto, driven by everyone from Steven Spielberg to Jeffrey Katzenberg (who credited the vehicle with saving his life after it was involved in a serious accident).

While the pre-orders speak volumes about the popularity of Tesla, it also raises concerns about the company’s ability to meet the complex production goals.
