Presidential Candidates Busy Campaigning in New York Ahead Primary

At a time when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are sweating over winning their respective party primaries in their home state NY, a new Associated Press-GfK poll indicates that Americans trust the Democratic presidential front-runner more than the Republican leader to handle a wide range of issues like immigration, health care, and nominating Supreme Court justices, reports The Washington Post.

Bernie Sanders said Hillary Clinton is not “qualified” to be president because of the donations she accepts from the fossil fuel industry, while Clinton questioned whether Sanders’s ideas are realistic.

While Sanders faces tough odds of overtaking Clinton, who has a commanding lead in delegates, his continued presence in the race has rankled the former secretary of state and prevented her from fully turning her attention toward the general election.

The April 19 primary in NY has become a make-or-break moment for both the campaigns, with Clinton seeking to avoid the political blow of losing the state she represented for eight years in the Senate.

Tensions frayed in both parties on Monday, as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump tried to stave off the prospect of a lengthy battle to the nomination with big victories in NY. Cruz’s campaign has worked hard in states where the delegate allocation process is more complex, such as Colorado, where the US senator from Texas garnered 34 delegates on Saturday. “The state that has the highest per-capita number of those guns that end up committing crime in NY come from Vermont”, Ms. Clinton said, eliciting gasps from the audience of a couple-hundred.

Clinton remains the clear frontrunner for the Democratic party presidential ticket for November’s election, but Sanders has the momentum and has enjoyed a string of successes at the polls in recent weeks.

Later, Mr. Israel told reporters: “You couldn’t have a more vivid contrast between Hillary Clinton as a senator, a first lady and a future president who has consistently supported the safety of families from gun violence versus Sen”.

Sanders won 55.7% of the vote to Clinton’s 44.3%, giving each candidate seven delegates. They seriously need to calm down before we have a President Trump, President Cruz, or even a President Ryan.

Trump’s campaign said in a statement after his museum visit that the site was “symbolic of the strength of our country, and in particular New Yorkers, who have done such an incredible job rebuilding that devastated section of our city”.

The New York businessman has kept an atypically low profile on the campaign trail, and has reorganized his campaign to include a new “convention manager”, Paul Manafort, to counter Cruz’s climb in the delegate race.

“I have noticed that under the bright spotlight and scrutiny here in New York, Sen”.

That means Sanders barely put a dent in Clinton’s more than 200-delegate lead.

Republicans seem to be on their way to preparing for a contested convention this summer – based on the belief that no candidate may clinch the nomination with enough delegates before them. Just 6 in 10 say that of Sanders or Trump.

“I’ve grown to like him more”.

In California so far, the campaign has raised about $9.8 million from more than 26,000 donors, the most Sanders has received from any one state, according to a Reuters analysis of campaign finance disclosures. That suggests a volatility in the Pennsylvania electorate not present in NY. If Trump gets 50 percent of the vote in the primary, he gets all of the state’s at-large delegates, and three delegates in each congressional district that he wins with 50 percent of the vote. Marco Rubio, who suspended his campaign, has 171 delegates.
