GOP Presidential Hopeful Ted Cruz Hosts Rally in Irvine

“In the last three weeks we have beaten Donald in all 11 elections”, Cruz pointed out.

Luis Miranda, communications director of the Democratic National Committee, said Cruz is a divisive figure for the Republican Party, because he can’t win the party’s nomination “without forcing a floor fight at the convention, which doesn’t bode well for Republicans”. On Saturday, Cruz completed a sweep of all 34 delegates that were up for grabs in the state.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will be in Buffalo Thursday night as part of a special on MSNBC.

Cruz’s appearance in Orange County on Monday afternoon was his first public appearance in the state since it became clear that California’s June 7 primary will be critical in selecting the Republican nominee – or denying Trump the delegates he needs to clinch the nomination.

“We anticipated early on that this primary could easily come down to the state of California, and that in fact is what has happened”, Cruz said.

Cruz later offered a prediction he guessed has not been put forward for 50 years: “California is going to decide the Republican nomination for president”. Cruz had previously rolled out a 119-member leadership team in the state.

There’s more of a challenge in California, where the state’s 53 Congressional districts each hold 3 GOP delegates to be won at the ballot box.

“Most other Republican presidential campaigns’ strategy for California sounds like a burger chain – In-N-Out”. Yet given its size and population, California could also hold promise for a candidate like Trump who tends to be more ubiquitous on the air than the ground.

“Usually by the time it gets to California, it’s all over”, said Bennett, a data analyst. “People are waking up and help is on the way. It’s going to be California that leads the way”.

In a conference call with reporters ahead of Cruz’s rallies, Democratic Rep. Scott Peters of San Diego bashed Cruz for his role in the 2013 federal government shutdown, calling him “out of touch” and “far to the right of the vast majority of Americans”.
