A couple on an Etihad Airways flight received a tragic text message just as the plane was about to take off.
Last week, a couple was traveling from Manchester, UK to Australia with a stop scheduled in Abu Dhabi, reports Mashable.
They told the cabin crew immediately and the crew told the pilot.
After they managed to get the attention of the cabin crew, the pilot returned the plane to the boarding gate to allow the couple to disembark and collect their luggage.
Sensing something was wrong, they sent him a text message and left the phone on.
Their grandson died the following day, 31 March, when the passengers were scheduled to be arriving in Australia.
“I’ve been in the travel business for 25 years” and had not heard of an airline going “above and beyond with their customer service” in such a way, she said. The flight went ahead after the couple had got off.
Becky Stephenson posted a message on Facebook group called Travel Gossip where she thanked the airline for their selfless service for the couple.
“It was such a sad thing that happened to my clients, but it was lovely that Etihad was able to help in the way they did”.
The couple have been told that that they could use the ticket on a different date, Mrs Stephensons added, but “my customers are not thinking of when they’re flying back out again”. “Sadly my customers” grandson passed away the day after but had they not been allowed off the flight and had to fly back from Abu Dhabi they may not have made it to his bedside’.

The airline has received widespread praise for its actions on social media as every little detail had been taken care of.
