Mustagim Mammadov, the head of local administration in Terter, a region in Azerbaijan affected by fighting, said the Armenian forces fired automatic weapons overnight at front-line villages in the area, but there were no casualties.

In light of the recent escalation, questions now arise for the major players in the region and the two sides that are party to the conflict as to what the state of affairs will be in the highly disputed region.
Skirmishes continued Friday around Nagorno-Karabakh with Azerbaijan and Armenia blaming each other for cease-fire violations, while Russian Federation sought to stabilize the situation by playing as go-between. “As long as the clashes continue, a political process can not be reached”. Azerbaijan is committed to resolving the conflict peacefully within global law, Aliyev said. The war ended with a truce in 1994, although there have been sporadic flare-ups since.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also spoken with the Armenian and Azeri leaders. Azerbaijan denied the accusation.
He stressed that Russian Federation is interested more than any other foreign partner that the conflict is resolved as soon as possible.
Since then, the Armenian military has been in control of Azerbaijani territory in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Peace talks won’t be complete without the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh’s officials, who aren’t aware of proposals made at meetings led by Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe mediators, Bako Sahakyan, who’s president of the unrecognized republic, said in the capital Stepanakert.
The armed clashes resulted in deaths and injuries among the Azerbaijani population.
Nagorno-Karabakh said 38 Armenian servicemen have been killed, 21 are missing and 122 were wounded since the fighting broke out April 1, while 11 civilians also died. Ignoring the agreement, the Armenian side again started violating the ceasefire.
Azerbaijan has said 31 of its soldiers have been killed since Saturday while Armenia’s Defense Ministry has acknowledged the loss of 44 troops. Azerbaijan denies accepting it irrespective of the fact that it had been agreed with Baku in advance. If the truce held, he hoped talks to find a lasting solution to the dispute could be resumed. “Armenia backs the implementation of this mechanism, as well as the withdrawal of snipers from the line of contact”, President Sargsyan said.
“The main thing is to avoid the conflict entering a hot phase because that could have the most tragic consequences for the region”, Medvedev told reporters.
The cease-fire came after fighting erupted on April 2.
