Sir Elton John in talks for Kingsman 2

If Sir Elton John does in fact sign on for the Kingsman sequel, it will mark a major departure from his usual film efforts – which are often relegated to musical accompaniment and voiceover work.

Matthew Vaughn returns to write and direct the film, which sees Eggsy heading to the United States where he’ll meet his match in a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy”.

John will join returning star Taron Egerton and new cast additions Julianne Moore, Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal.

Elton John is in talks to join Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the sequel to 2014’s surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service. We feel that we’ve let you down, and we’ve let ourselves down. John’s acting credits are few and far between, most of which are appearances as himself, including The Simpsons and Spice World, though he did appear as The Pinball Wizard in Tommy.

His other wins include a Tony for Best Original Score for “Aida”. I’m also convinced that having Elton John standing next to Colin Firth, doing his lines, just might turn out to be the strangest thing to have happened in cinema for a long, long time.

The first Kingsman movie was based on the Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic book series The Secret Service. Production is set to begin shortly. The movie will be released on June 16 next year.
