More than a dozen families left homeless in Hartford fire

Seven firefighters received some form of medical treatment, including two that were treated for burns – with 15 families being displaced – as the result of a 5-alarm fire that quickly spread through a Union City building yesterday, officials said.

Firefighters say the blaze broke out at about 11 p.m. on Monday in a building on Park Street that housed several businesses on the street level and apartments above. “Firefighters did a very good job of containing the fire and not letting it spread any further than it did”.

It happened around 5:30 Sunday evening in the 1000 block of Central Avenue North. The family came home to find the apartment filled with thick smoke and immediately called 911.

Montagne also stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“It was very quick and popping, in five minutes everything like you know – fire”, Ramirez said. North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Chief Frank Montagne says one of those firefighters suffered a serious back injury.
