Steelers RB Bell could have suspension reduced

Bell and Blount were arrested after a motorcycle officer in Ross Township smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle Bell was driving hours before a team flight to a preseason game in Philadelphia.

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell said this afternoon that the NFL has yet to hear the appeal of his three-game suspension that was reported in April to have been levied by the league.

On Saturday, Bell said he “most definitely” wants his suspension reduced but said he had no idea how the league would handle his appeal, or if it was even up for evaluation. Graziano’s report was corroborated shortly thereafter by Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.

Bell was suspended for an incident last August involving himself and then-teammate LeGarrette Blount. Bell was suspended an additional two games for the DUI charge.

As Albert Breer of NFL.com noted, the delineation of Bell’s suspension was as such; two games for driving under the influence and one for marijuana use/possession. Argument is he’s punished twice for same thing.

Bell was the NFL’s No. 2 rusher in 2014, with 1,361 yards. He also had 83 receptions for 854 yards and three touchdowns. The arbitrator encouraged the sides to work toward a settlement, and it’s believed an agreement could be reached and a reduction in his suspension announced in the next week or so.

There’s simply no doubting that the team missed him during their playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens this postseason, so seeing him return quicker than expected will be a major boost to a Steelers squad looking to improve on last season.
