Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray scratched against White Sox

RHP Sonny Gray will start Wednesday against the White Sox after being scratched Monday with food poisoning or the flu. “He was excited; he’d never had an opening day start, and he was our key free agent acquisition pitcher. The year we had last year starting off, it’s good to get a “W” right off the bat”.

Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday’s win over the A’s.

Butler is in need of a good start to his season and he had a big game, doubling twice in three at-bats against Sale. Then in the fifth he drilled a leadoff double.

That brings us to Monday, being the season opener for the White Sox, on the road, against the Oakland Athletics, and just how is Sale being projected to pitch this season?

“Sonny wasn’t very happy when I told him in the hospital that he wasn’t pitching, so there was a point in time we didn’t communicate for a few moments”, Paparesta said. “A lot of improvements from previous year”. “The smartest thing is to err on the side of caution and not sent out a guy who hasn’t been able to keep anything down for 24 hours and expect him be able to perform”.

Play ball! It’s Opening Day for both the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants.

Gray was named the Opening Day start by manager Bob Melvin in Spring Training, scheduled to go against ace pitcher Chris Sale. “I’ve worked really hard to be sure I’m in the best shape physically and mentally for this year”. Bellino’s last three games involving the Chicago White Sox have played Under and the home team has won five of the last six games involving Bellino and the A’s. Semien extended his streak of reaching base safely to 25 games, dating to September 6, 2015. In two-plus Major League seasons he is 33-20 with a 2.88 ERA. He made three starts (16.2 IP), where he allowed four home runs, walked two but struck out 13 batters.

Bassitt was one pitch away from getting out of a two-on, two-out jam when he tried to throw Frazier one too many curves. With two on and two outs, Frazier crushed Bassitt’s 0-2 curveball into the left-field seats.

“He’s one of the best bad ball hitters in the game”, Bassitt said.

“As soon as I saw the throw, I’ve got a decision to make there”, Canha said. Sale did not face Oakland last season but dominated the Athletics in his only start against them in 2014, yielding two singles and fanning nine over eight frames in a win. “I want everyone involved”.

The A’s also struggled with runners in scoring position once again.
