Vigil held for victim in body parts case

Even before Charlton’s arrest, Lyne’s friends pleaded for help in finding the missing mom and posted photographs of her date online.

Ingrid Lyne was a nurse and a mother of three who was last seen Friday.

Seattle police detectives searched Lyne’s home Sunday and found a 15-inch pruning saw near the bathtub, an empty box of plastic garbage bags identical to the type containing the body parts, and collected swabs of suspected blood, according to court documents. It was not clear on which website the two had met.

King County prosecutors say Charlton killed Lyne in her Renton home and then drove her body to Seattle in the victim’s vehicle. “As far as other forensic evidence that’s out there, we will continue on over the next 24, 48, 72 hours – as long as it takes to find anything and everything that we can”, Seattle Police Department Assistant Chief Robert Merner said.

John Charlton appears in court at the King County Jail Courtroom in Seattle on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

In 2006, his parents filed a petition for an order of protection against their son after he arrived at their home angry and apparently intoxicated, the Seattle Times reports.

Body parts believed to be hers were found in a homeowner’s recycling bin in Seattle days after she was last seen going out on the date with Charlton.

Citing his offenses in multiple states, a judge set Charlton’s bail at $2 million during a hearing Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators believe Ingrid Maree Lyne, 40, was killed at her home in the Seattle suburb of Renton and then transported to downtown Seattle, where three human body parts, including a head and foot, were found in a recycling bin Saturday.

Police said, based on that evidence, Charlton was arrested in connection with Lyne’s murder and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of homicide.

The last time neighbors say they saw Lyne was at her mailbox Friday before she headed out for her date with Charlton.

Her friend Nancy Sivitilli said, Ingrid had been dating Charlton long enough to form a trusting relationship with him.

In the 2006 filing for a restraining order south of Seattle in Thurston County Superior Court, Charlton’s parents, Ray and JoAnn Charlton, said he had tried to provoke a fight with them while he was drunk and abusive.

Though officials wouldn’t confirm if the suspect in custody is the same person Lyne was meeting, they did reveal the 37-year-old has a lengthy criminal history – including assault in 1997 and battery in 2009.

Authorities say Charlton’s cellphone records were crucial in the investigation.

On Saturday, Charlton made a odd Facebook update, changing his education status to “School of All OF Them”.

Perhaps police can at least deliver justice for Lyne’s grieving family and friends.

A neighbor, Edward Franceschina, who lives across the street, last saw Lyne Friday afternoon when she was getting her mail and she said “hi”. Police say they were placed in the bin sometime late Friday or on Saturday.
