Procrastinators get short tax deadline break

According to H&R Block, almost one in three taxpayers wait until April to file.

Here’s the bad news- You still have to file tax returns and pay your taxes.

File Online- Over 70% of individual taxpayers file online now, and doing so saves you the time and effort of having to get envelopes, photocopy returns, schedules and forms, and then trek to the post office to mail it all in.

Also, never let a preparer submit your taxes without letting you review them first so you know the information is correct.

The IRS reminds taxpayers that a request for an extension provides extra time to file a tax return, but not extra time to pay any taxes owed.

Remember: An extension of time for filing doesn’t extend the due date for your taxes.

If that’s the case, you will probably want to file for an extension.

If you have an approved time-to-file extension from the IRS, you do not need to file a separate extension with Arizona. Keep in mind that if you got married, divorced or adopted a child / children this year the name the Social Security Administration has on file must match the name on all identification and income information.

Lower-income taxpayers can get free tax return preparation at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites through April 18. There’s no need to fear, however, as there are a couple of easy ways to file taxes at the last minute.
