Instagram gets personal with ‘Videos You Might Like’

Instagram has taken steps to showcase the best videos hosted on the platform to its users, without cluttering up their main feed, by syphoning off such content into a suite of new channels hosted on a revamped Explore page. To begin, you’ll find a personalized channel called “Videos You Might Like” that collects videos from across Instagram’s global community into a seamless viewing experience. The new Explore features are only available in the United States to start.

“We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram”.

Instagram announced in a blog post that it has changed the design of its Explore tab, so you can now see an option of Videos You Might Like that you can select to see trending videos instead of photos. You can also actively restrict certain content with the “See Fewer Post Like This” function in the menu.

Primarily focused on photos, the app has switched to videos and view counts, as it tries to draw in revenue from video views.

On Instagram, users “like” still pictures a lot more than videos, but comments represent a deeper level of engagement than likes, the video marketing firm finds. To make sure you are running the latest version, this version number is 7.20.

However, the changes are only available for those in the USA right now; Instagram is looking to roll out video channels internationally “soon”.

According to the Google Play Store, the size of the app and its Android version compatibility varies from device to device.
