West Indies needed 19 runs off the last over and Brathwaite hit Ben Stokes for four massive sixes which took them home.

Brathwaite ended with 34 not out off 10 balls.

After being reduced to 11 for three, Marlon Samuels anchored the West Indies’ run chase of 156 with an unbeaten 85 off 66 balls, after England had posted 155-9 in their 20 overs.

But early wickets for Root, who came on for the second over and dismissed Johnson Charles (1) and Chris Gayle (4), gave England hope and left the West Indies requiring 55 from the final four overs.

Both sides fielded unchanged squads for the match which will see one of them becoming the first team to win a second World Twenty20 title.

West Indies beat India by 7 wickets in a nail-biting finish at the T20 World Cup as Lendl Simmons hit a fiery 82 not out to reach the target with two balls to spare.

“The way the guys have played we’ve had some tough victories”.

Top scorer for England was Joe Root, who dug out 54 runs.

“For today, I’m going to celebrate with these 15 men and coaching staff. I don’t know when I’m going to be playing with these guys again because we don’t get selected for one-day cricket”. We had a lot of issues, we felt disrespected by our board, Mark Nicholas described our team as a team with no greats, and all these things before the tournament brought this team together.

Braithwaite will hog the headlines with his sensational knock after coming to the crease16th over, when the West Indies had to score 49 off 27 balls to win.

“No, we believe”, said Sammy when asked if he thought the match was over heading into the final six balls. We were certainly in the game, put ourselves in a position to win the game.

“Full credit to the West Indies…they played very high risk, high reward cricket”.

“I really want to thank him. [It] means so much for us and especially the people of the Caribbean”, said wicketkeeper Merissa Aguilleira.

“It was us in our own little circle and we dedicate this win to all fans in Caribbean”.

I don’t worry about semi-finals because when it comes to finals I always turn up and do well for the team.

“We are in a good position”, said Bravo.
