Nearly 300000 Tesla Model 3s pre-ordered

As Model 3 madness continues, Tesla Motors issued its first set of quarterly sales results for 2016. On Twitter, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has been teasing auto enthusiasts with messages saying things like the Model 3 will feel like a “spaceship”.

To mark their partnership Qantas Airlines and Tesla Motors came up with a stunt to promote sustainability and show off their love for speed.

Musk said production of its new SUV would increase to about 750 cars a week before the end of March.

Tesla delivered only 206 of its Model X orders in the fourth quarter of past year, while the company reported it delivered 2,400 during the first quarter.

Demand is so high that it may be hard for Tesla to keep up with production – Mr Musk said the company is “definitely going to need to rethink production planning”.

These errors, usually associated with a lack of humility, led to delays in Model X deliveries and production.

The number of orders is unprecedented when compared with electric vehicle sales worldwide, especially for just a few days after opening. The company started taking orders early Thursday before Musk unveiled the new auto.

Customers must put down $1,000 to reserve one of the cars, which are scheduled to go on sale in late 2017.

“Tesla is addressing all three root causes to ensure that these mistakes are not repeated with the Model 3 launch”, the company says. It’s offered to the first 200,000 buyers of an electric vehicle in the US from each automaker.

Fans of the luxury electric vehicle manufacturer began to queue up outside dealerships across the world from hours before the reveal in order to be amongst the first to pre-order the sedan for a $1,000 (£700) deposit.

The Model 3’s cost is less than 50% of Tesla’s previous models, and its range is about double what drivers get from current competitors in its price range, such as the BMW i3 and Nissan Leaf. With that said, it looks like Tesla is switching up its supplier of the center display from TPK Holdings, the company who provided screens for the Model S and Model X, to LG.
