South Carolina’s Jobless Rate Edges up a Bit in March
Over the year (March 2015 to March 2016), wage and salary employment increased by 23,900, with gains in the education and health services sector (+6,700), the professional and business services sector (+5,100), and the leisure and hospitality sector (+4,600), among others. The state’s rate last month is the same as the national rate. “The growth is very encouraging, as we continue to see higher numbers of people working than we have in almost eight years”.

The Maine Department of Labor released preliminary figures Friday that show March’s rate is slightly lower than February’s 3.6 percent rate and significantly below the 4.6 percent rate of March 2015.
Braun says “over 60,000 Hoosiers joined the workforce in the first three months of 2016, which is indicative of worker confidence in finding and securing gainful employment in IN”. “Applicants for these exams are counted for the unemployed”, said Sim Won-bo, head of the agency’s employment statistics division.
Of Alabama’s 67 counties, 64 counties experienced an unemployment rate decrease in March.
The unemployment rate for young people, aged between 15 and 29, reached 11.8 percent last month, down from a record high of 12.5 percent in February.

The labor force participation rate (LFPR) was 50.7 percent, a 0.7 percentage point increase. Almost 2 million South Carolinians are now working. That’s an improvement both from the previous month and a year before.
