She later updated the post to say the children had been referred to Shriners Hospital with their mother, where they were being treated.

She told FOX23 she dropped her sons, ages 5 and 7, at the Happiness is a Learning Center day care on Friday between 8:30 and 9 a.m. She said when she picked them up after 5 p.m., the kids told her they’d been at a splash pad all day without shirts on while they played. They were taken to Hillcrest Medical Center Burn Unit in Tulsa – then they were life-flighted to Shriner’s Hospital in Galveston, Texas, according to KOTV.

The daycare has since voluntarily closed its doors, while the Department of Human Services say they’re investigating claims of neglect.

Buzzfeed reported that Shaunna Broadway filed a police report and is finding an attorney. “At any point, if the owner were to try to open another facility we would look at the history of compliance/non-compliance actions and we can deny the application”.

The daycare has denied the claims, stating that while they did not provide sunscreen, the children also disobeyed carer instructions by taking their shirts off. Officials say seven other children were also at the daycare and did not get burned, indicating that there could be “more to the story”.

The family shared numerous photos of the boys, many of them showing their backs and shoulders covered with blisters.

“Right’s right, and wrong’s wrong, and there’s no excuse for this”, Shaunna said.

When Shaunna arrived to pick them up at the end of the day, she found the boys were badly sunburned. I work Monday through Friday, and they have to go to daycare.

“I can’t explain what it’s like to be a mother and have your kids asking you why this happened and [saying, ] ‘Mom, please make it stop, ‘” Broadway told KJRH. Broadway says the boys will likely remain in hospital for the week.

The Vinita facility has received 19 citations in four visits from DHS since September 30, according to the agency’s records, including multiple noncompliance observations of “no master teacher on staff” and no one on the staff having current bronze director credentials.

‘They’re getting better but it’s definitely taking time and it’s been really hard seeing them in so much pain and not sleeping.
