Study names Publix America’s 2nd favorite grocer

After four years as being named the nation’s favorite, Trader Joe’s fell to third in annual research as Wegmans topped the list followed in second by Publix. Publix, with a score of 75 percent, ranked second for the fourth year. Wegmans is now officially America’s favorite grocery store.

A Colorado-based research firm, Market Force Information, did a large-scale study of more than 10,000 consumers.

To come up with the rankings, Market Force asked people to rate their satisfaction with their most recent trip to the grocery store and the likelihood they’d recommend that market to a friend. Researchers then averaged these values together to rank the top 15 brands on a “Composite Loyalty Index”.

It should be noted that Wegmans might have landed among the ranks earlier, but it hadn’t earned enough votes to make the list in previous years.

The study also found that more shoppers are seeking local and organic food, finding that 49 percent preferred organic when given the choice. Others in the top five include Hy-Vee (68 percent) and Aldi (65 percent).

Market Force’s survey was conducted online in February 2016.

Trader Joe’s still won out in the cashier courtesy category, while ALDI – which shares a parent company with Trader Joe’s – came in first for best prices. Think a more spacious Trader Joe’s with even more fun products – and prepared food, too.
