Aston Villa fans have reacted furiously after defender Joleon Lescott described the club’s relegation as a “weight off the shoulders”. It is an important day for us because we won.

The club were also forced to deny claims that a redesign of their crest had incurred costs of £2m ($3.6m).

Villa, once known as one of the mainstays of the first division English football will be playing their football in the second tier for the first time since 1988, ending an impress 28 year run, despite some late heroics from second half substitute Rudy Gestede.

At the other end, Jordan Ayew and Kieran Richardson smashed speculative efforts over the bar from distance as Villa struggled to cope with United’s movement, and Valencia found space on the right to pick out Rashford for a well-taken opener. He didn’t have that much to do against Aston Villa, largely because they weren’t that interested in attacking.

“Now it’s confirmed, maybe it’s a weight off the shoulders and we can give these fans what they deserve, some performances”, Lescott told BBC 5 Live. “He wanted to play the full game, and I like that, but the rhythm of the Premier League is high”. “The Premier League is where everyone wants to be, every player and every fan”.

Meanwhile, Ellis, who built a reputation for sacking managers during his 35-year reign at the club, urged Lerner to take a more hands-on approach. Teams are set to earn at least 100 million pounds per season in TV and prize money.

“I have friends involved in what’s going on at Villa and it’s awful to see”.

Tyneside teams Sunderland and Newcastle, boosted their survival hopes with 3-0 victories over Norwich City and Swansea City respectively.

Saturday’s focus at the top of the standings was on the scrap for the fourth Champions League spot.

Argentina star Aguero completed his treble from the ensuing 80th-minute penalty.

City provisionally climbed above Arsenal into third place.

They failed to replace Fabian Delph, Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar and signed Jordan Veretout, Jordan Ayew and Jordan Amavi from France.

The focus returns to the title race in the coming days.
