However, this doesn’t mean Trump is viewed as the best candidate outside the Republican party.

If the national convention isn’t settled on the first ballot, it looks likely that numerous 50 delegates from the Palmetto State would desert Trump, who came in first in the primary, but with only 33 percent of the vote. The AP delegate count: Trump 744; Cruz 559; and John Kasich 144.

Trump’s unfavorable rating increased 6 percentage points in the CBS poll from the last time voters were queried in March. “If their candidate is not on the ballot, they’re free to vote for whomever they choose”.

The Cruz campaign has been focused on filling the Rubio slots with Cruz supporters.

Brookover “talked about their path to 1,237 – he’s (Trump) the only one with the path to that number – and how important the upcoming primaries will be, mainly NY and Pennsylvania”, said Barletta, one of a half-dozen House Republicans who attended the meeting.

“The Ted Cruz campaign went up and down the hallways and said, Will you please vote for these people?”

IN party leaders and insiders chose 27 of the 57 delegates behind closed doors Wednesday and, according to CNN, the delegates selected includes: senior party fundraisers, former party chairmen and lawmakers. In recent contests, Trump earned one delegate in North Dakota and zero delegates in Colorado.

He then offered to ask Cruz some practice questions for his Tonight Show appearance, for example, how did he win all those delegates in Colorado without anyone even voting? Whoever wins a given district gets three delegates.

“The issues that energize and excite the Trump voters: illegal immigration, securing the border, keeping this country safe and bringing jobs back to America, bringing them back from China, back from Mexico – those issues are right at the heart of our campaign”, he said.

“The 34 delegates who were elected on Saturday, they don’t represent us and they don’t represent a majority of Colorado Republicans”, Behrens said.
