There’s no vaccine for West Nile virus, but Main said very few mosquito-bite victims suffer symptoms. That could lead to the spread of West Nile if precautions are not taken.

Symptoms of West Nile virus may include headache, fever, fatigue, dizziness, weakness and confusion.

The Kane County Health Department can provide more information. The county has contracted out its mosquito abatement program to make a more aggressive fight. Rarely, individuals can have a severe form of disease resulting in hospitalization.

Simmons emptied a bucket full of the mosquito larvae eaters into the water. Protect yourself from mosquito bites and the diseases they carry.

Mosquitoes breed in swamps, lakes and streams, but they’re especially drawn to small bodies of water like kiddy pools, bird baths and puddles on outdoor furniture, Main said.

-Use a mosquito repellant containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Health officials suggest wearing mosquito repellent, covering arms and legs with light-colored clothing, and avoiding mosquito-prone areas in the mornings and evenings when activity is highest.
