Gold, whose family founded the 99 Cents Only Stores chain, withdrew the money from a bank, organizers said.
Supporters of Bernie Sanders protested down the street from the event, and even threw cash at her motorcade as it went by.
Democratic political analyst Dan Cence says Bernie Sanders needs to ask himself how much longer he’s going to keep it up for the good of the Democratic Party. Sanders was born in Brooklyn and Clinton served as New York’s USA senator, leading both campaigns to cast the primary election as something of a fight for the soul of the Democratic Party.
Howard Gold, a neighbor of Clooney, hosted a $27 per person fundraiser in support of Sanders, Clinton’s rival for the Democratic nomination, according to The Hill, a Washington, D.C.-based newspaper that covers Congress, the White House and federal campaigns. Clooney and his wife, Amal, a human rights attorney, will host a second fundraiser in their Los Angeles home on Saturday night.
The Hail Caesar! star was speaking after hosting a fundraising event for Hillary Clinton’s campaign to become the democratic presidential candidate. No big money from speeches, no major investments.
The focus of Clinton’s swing through California was a pair of big-ticket fundraisers with actor George Clooney, with some donors agreeing to raise or donate six-figure sums. They said they were upset with the fundraiser’s ticket prices that ranged from $33,000 to $350,000. Donations for attendees at an event in San Francisco topped out at $353,000 per couple, which Clooney acknowledges is an “obscene amount of money”.
Sanders on Saturday was travelling back to NY after finishing visit to Rome, where the senator from Vermont spoke at a Vatican conference and met briefly with Pope Francis. Clinton shone on foreign policy questions, he said, while Sanders fared better on domestic issues, such as economic inequality and universal health care.
