Clooney Blasts ‘Obscene’ Fundraisers – After Hosting Hillary

Clooney had just hosted one fundraiser for Clinton in San Francisco on Friday evening, and was about to host another on Saturday evening with his wife, Amal, in their home in Studio City, Los Angeles.

“Yes”, Clooney answered. “I think it’s an obscene amount of money”. “I don’t even think politicians do”, Clooney said.

“We had some protesters last night when we pulled up in San Francisco and they’re right to protest”.

Mr Sanders, whose populist campaign has posed a resilient challenge to Mrs Clinton, praised Clooney’s description of political cash as “obscene”. The ones he and other Democratic donors support “would probably cost us a lot of money” while “the Koch brothers would probably profit if they get their way”. “I don’t think you do that by raising money from the top 1 percent and then say to working-class people, or the middle class, I’m here to represent you”, he said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” program.

Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Mr Sanders said Clooney was right about the “obscene” contributions. The Bernie Sanders campaign, which has made the effort to get big money out of politics its number one policy issue, heard that number and went on the attack. Sanders’ remarks at the April 14 Democratic debate ahead of New York’s decisive primary Tuesday amounted to unprecedented criticism of Israel and promotion of Palestinian rights from a canvassing US presidential candidate.

The money supports the Hillary Victory Fund.

Their T-shirts said, you know, “You sucked as Batman”.

About 100 of his supporters held a smaller-scale event created to contrast the two candidates’ fundraising philosophies.

It didn’t take long for the Sanders campaign to seize on his comments. “She is out there raising money for the wealthy and the powerful”.

Supporters of Bernie Sanders protested outside the Friday night fundraiser, which was the context for Todd’s question to Clooney.
